Beginner’s Guide to Elin

Welcome to our beginner’s guide for Elin! In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know to get started, including tutorials and essential gameplay details.

Why Complete the Tutorial?

Elin provides a user-friendly tutorial, making it easier to learn the basics compared to its predecessor, Elona. Completing the tutorial is crucial as it introduces you to essential controls and gives you valuable items. While you can skip it, doing so may lead you to miss important resources. Our guide will help you maximize your tutorial experience.

Elin offers a high level of freedom, which means there’s a lot to learn to progress smoothly. We hope this guide helps you tackle the initial challenges and enjoy your adventure in Elin!

Starting the Game

  1. Character Movement: Once you can move your character, speak with the Shadow of Mysilia, named “Ashland.”
  2. Collect the Land Deed: After your conversation, a “Land Deed” will appear at your feet. Pick it up and read it.
  3. Gather Items: Talk to Ashland again to receive various items. Use your left mouse button, select “Pick all,” and collect them.

Using Your Axe

  • Shortcut Setup: Since you’ll use the axe frequently, place it in your shortcut area for easy access.
  • Understanding Shortcuts: Shortcuts allow quick access to commonly used items and abilities. The leftmost slot shows what you’re currently holding. For example, if you want to chop wood, ensure the axe is in that slot.
  • Switching Shortcuts: You can switch items using target clicking, the mouse wheel, or number keys. Using the mouse wheel can be particularly easy.
  • Switching to Bare Hands: To use bare hands, click on the leftmost column or scroll to it with the mouse wheel.

Getting a Pet

  1. Talk to Fiama: Speak with the Shadow of Mysilia, named “Fiama,” to choose a pet. If unsure, the “little girl” pet is a reliable option for battles.
  2. Reviving Your Pet: If your pet dies, you can revive it for free by talking to Fiama.

Essential Equipment

  • Check the Request Board: Look for tasks from Ashland, starting with “Essential Equipment.”
  • Collect the Sturdy Box: Pick up the “Sturdy Box” and think about where to place it. Use the right-click to grab it, or middle-click if right-click has another function.
  • Change Box Permissions: After placing the box, open it and click on the permission icon to change it from private to shared. Talk to Ashland to complete this task.

Frontier Inspector Task

  • After completing “Essential Equipment,” you’ll see a new task: “Frontier Inspector.”
  • Choose “I want to live as I please” to proceed, but the task will remain on the board.
  • Talk to Loytel to finish this task. He can sell you supplies and join as a companion, and you can revive him through Fiama if he dies.

First Shipping Box Task

  1. Complete “Frontier Inspector”: A new task called “First Shipping Box” will appear, providing you a box to earn money.
  2. Create a Workbench: Gather logs with your axe and craft a Workbench using “Quick Craft.” Place the Workbench by right-clicking to grab and set it down.
  3. Make a Makeshift Bed: Collect “grass” and “leaf” from weeds to craft a bed for better stamina recovery.
  4. Complete the Shipping Box Task:
    • Use Palulu logs specifically for the shipping box. Collect materials around you and head to the workbench to craft it.
    • Place the box and talk to Loytel to finish the task. Items in the box will be collected daily at 5 AM for money and gold nuggets.

The Way of the Crafter

  • Learn Crafting Basics: The workbench is already crafted and placed. Most items need to be placed to be used.
  • Craft a Torch: To craft a torch, gather branches, string, and resin. Make string from vines at the workbench.
  • Building a House:
    1. From the workbench, craft one “Grass Door” and ten “Grass Walls.”
    2. Arrange the walls in a 2×3 layout. Right-click to grab and place each wall.
    3. Add the door after placing the walls. Note that a door needs walls on both sides.
    4. Talk to Ashland for rewards, including a training dummy and a “Signboard Workshop Recipe.”

Home and Resident Boards

  • Purchasing Boards: Talk to Fiama and select “Let me see your home equipment.” Buy the “Home Board” and “Resident Board” for 10 gold bars each.
  • Setting Policies: The Home Board allows you to set policies. Recommended starting policies include:
    • Growth Suppression: Stops enemies from getting stronger early on.
    • Strict Anti-Littering Law: Reduces trash around your base.
    • Weed Pulling Campaign: Prevents weed overgrowth.
    • Tax-Free Land: Starts as active.

The Resident Board helps you manage resident information.

Defense Training and Combat

  • Combat Basics: Hover over enemies to see their strength. Use your pet to fight safely.
  • Defeating Enemies: After defeating Punk, report to Ashland. You’ll then face a boar. Use ranged attacks to avoid counterattacks and collect potions and pebbles.
  • Tracking Progress: Monitor your quest tracker as you aim to defeat 100 enemies. This can be done over time.

Other Important Quests

  • Tax Liability: Don’t worry about this until you receive a bill.
  • Fiama’s Feeling: This quest unlocks after starting “To the New Lands.” It introduces essential crafting recipes.
  • Lost Puppy: A quest to find a lost puppy in a dungeon. It may be tough initially, so return when stronger.
  • Pioneer Spirit: Prepare for farming by crafting tools at the Tinker’s Table.

Crafting the Tinker’s Table

  1. Craft a Workbench using 2 logs.
  2. Craft a Sawmill with 3 logs and 3 stones.
  3. Use the Sawmill to turn logs into planks.
  4. Create a Carpenter’s Table with 4 planks and 2 stones.
  5. Craft a table and chair, then make the Tinker’s Table using the table, chair, and 2 bones.

Tools at the Tinker’s Table

  • Pickaxe: For digging through walls.
  • Hammer: To disassemble items into components.
  • Sickle: For harvesting seeds from plants and crops.

After crafting, report back to Loytel to learn about soil fertility and receive rewards like seeds.
