EA Sports FC 27 Kicks Off Today With The Grounds and a Rebuilt Transfer Market
EA Sports FC 27 is out now on five platforms, led by the new open-world Grounds mode, a reworked Ultimate Team transfer market and a Kylian Mbappe-fronted Season 1.
EA Sports FC 27 is live worldwide today, arriving on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through the EA App, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Ultimate and Ultimate Plus Edition buyers have already had a week-long head start since September 18, but the standard edition unlocks for everyone today, closing out a launch window EA has spent since mid-September walking through in a series of official pitch notes.
Launch Times Across Five Platforms
EA is staggering the rollout by platform rather than firing a single global switch. The PC version unlocks at 11pm UTC tonight, while console copies go live at midnight local time on September 25 for players on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2. A free-to-download version, EA Sports FC 27 Lite, follows a day later on September 25 at 4pm UTC, giving players access to modes like Kick-Off without a purchase, with the option to upgrade into the full game at any point.
The Grounds Opens Football's New Playground
The headline addition is The Grounds, an open-world hub built around pickup football rather than scripted matches. Players wander between 1v1 cages, street-style kickabouts and Clubs matches in a single connected space, with EA framing it as a response to years of community requests for more informal ways to play. The mode launches alongside a European Nights event tied to the Champions League and will later add a Halloween-themed Screaming Grounds event.
Karthik Venkateshan, line producer on The Grounds, said the mode grew directly out of player feedback rather than an internal pitch: "The thing that started this whole project was driven by years of feedback we've gotten from the passionate clubs community."
Ultimate Team's Transfer Market Gets Rebuilt
Ultimate Team carries the biggest structural changes in FC 27. EA has rebuilt the transfer market around active club bidding and more realistic player valuations, and increased the proportion of tradeable rewards across nearly every mode. Post-match FUT Coin payouts rise well above FC 26's baseline, Division 1 Rivals rewards now top out near 95,000 coins with multiple tradeable packs, and a new Hall of FUT tier celebrates historically memorable items. Icons now enter the game at a flat 88 overall rating instead of a variable starting point, and a two-tier Holographic Items system separates Regular cards at 87 OVR and below from Pristine cards at 88 and above.
Chemistry has been tightened alongside the reward changes: Icons' nation link contribution drops from +2 to +1, and Heroes' league contribution sees the same reduction, part of a broader push to rein in how easily squads reach maximum chemistry.

Manager Career Adds Community-Made Challenges
Career Mode's Manager Live features gain Creator Challenges, letting players build and share custom scenarios such as turning around a poor start or finishing top of the table by Christmas. Season 1 also brings a run of Icons into Career Mode, including Kaká, Antonio Di Natale, Alessandro Del Piero, Raúl and Robin van Persie, alongside a reduced frequency of promotional store packs.
What's Next for Season 1
The Ones to Watch campaign runs from today through October 22, upgrading real-world Team of the Week and Player of the Month selections by a point each, with a one-time bonus if their club wins three of six opening domestic matches. A parallel Destined for Glory campaign tracks five players, led by cover star Kylian Mbappé, whose in-game items will rise in real time based on real-world goals, assists and clean sheets. EA has said in its Launch Update pitch notes that FC 27 will keep evolving through the season with further content drops planned beyond today's release.
