Helldivers 2's Liberty Day 2026 Hands Out a Free Retro Rifle and Ship Decor

Arrowhead marked Helldivers 2's third Liberty Day with a free retro rifle, 24 hours of ship decor, Discord minigames and long-term milestone rewards.

Helldivers 2 marked its third Liberty Day on October 26, and Arrowhead Game Studios used the in-universe Super Earth holiday to hand every active player a slice of the game's history. The headline gift is the AR-23L Liberator Legacy, a retro-styled rifle built as a nostalgic callback to the armory of the original Helldivers, available to anyone who logged in and joined the day's festivities.

Social Media and Community Manager Katherine Baskin framed the occasion as a thank-you to the playerbase that has kept the squad-based shooter near the top of PlayStation's charts since its 2024 launch. "We at Arrowhead Game Studios are excited to mark Liberty Day," Baskin wrote in the studio's official recap, tying the celebration to the in-fiction idea of Managed Democracy and the Helldivers who defend it.

Who Qualifies for the Free Rifle

Eligibility isn't limited to players who logged in on the day itself. Arrowhead set the qualifying window to anyone who has played Helldivers 2 since September 26, 2026 at 00:00 CET, giving a full month of activity credit before the holiday. The AR-23L Liberator Legacy itself went out at the very end of Liberty Day, 23:59 CET on October 26, once the celebrations wrapped.

That timing meant most of the day was about participation rather than an instant unlock: players needed to be logged in and taking part while Liberty Day was live, not simply claim the rifle from a menu after the fact.

Super Destroyers Got a 24-Hour Makeover

For the 24 hours of October 26, every player's Super Destroyer was dressed up with banners, rugs, party supplies and other ship adornments themed around the holiday. The decorations were purely cosmetic and automatic, disappearing once the day-long window closed, so anyone who skipped logging in on the 26th missed the ship décor even though the rifle reward still arrived for qualifying players.

Arrowhead also leaned on its Discord server for several community-only activities tied to the date. Minidivers let members fire off emoji-based stratagem codes to beat back simulated enemy waves, Adopt-a-SEAF handed out a small blueberry companion to look after, and a pair of ceremonial features, Oath of Enlistment and Raise the Flag, let the community mark the day together in chat rather than in the game itself.

Longer-Term Rewards Tied to the Celebration

Liberty Day wasn't only a one-day affair. Arrowhead tied two achievements to its Super Merch store, which sells physical items unlocked by in-game progress, with a deadline that stretches well into next year: reaching character level 100 earns the Hell Commander title and unlocks the right to buy the matching pin, while completing 75 missions opens up the Private Teddy Snuggles Plush. Both goals stay open at any pace through February 28, 2027, giving newer recruits a realistic shot at either one. Readers weighing which milestone rewards are worth chasing first have plenty of runway before that deadline arrives.

The studio's community page also offered a Liberty Day Party Pack alongside the in-game activities, and licensed Helldivers 2 merchandise from Displate is already available, with additional figures from FiGGYZ opening for pre-order on November 20.

Where Helldivers 2 Stands Heading Into Its Third Year

The timing lands as Helldivers 2 continues to lean on PlayStation Plus for reach. The game remains part of the PlayStation Plus Extra Game Catalog, alongside its standalone listing on the PlayStation Store, giving subscribers a way to jump in for Liberty Day without a separate purchase. Anyone wanting to enlist can join through either route, since Arrowhead's gifts apply to new recruits and three-year veterans alike.

With Liberty Day's cosmetics now retired until 2027, the AR-23L Liberator Legacy becomes the latest permanent addition to qualifying players' armories, alongside the Scope of Authority Warbond weapons Arrowhead shipped earlier this month.
