Invincible VS Opens Angstrom Levy's Open Beta October 13 With Portal Powers
Skybound's Invincible VS opens an Angstrom Levy beta on October 13, giving fighters an early look at his portal-and-orb zoning kit before launch.
Skybound's Invincible VS is about to put its newest fighter in front of the public well before his full release. In an October 1 post on Xbox Wire, executive producer Mike Willette confirmed that Angstrom Levy — the dimension-hopping antagonist from Robert Kirkman's Invincible comics — gets an open beta starting October 13, giving players a first real chance to learn his kit ahead of launch.
Developed by Quarter Up, the Skybound-owned studio founded by former Killer Instinct developers, Invincible VS is a 3v3 tag fighting game that launched April 30 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC with 18 characters drawn from the comic and its Prime Video adaptation. Angstrom Levy becomes the 21st playable fighter and the third of four confirmed Year One DLC additions, following Universa and The Immortal, who arrived when Season 1 launched on June 30.
A Zoner Built on Portals
Willette's post lays out a kit built entirely around spatial control. Angstrom Levy opens portals for offense, defense and mobility, letting him threaten opponents from angles other fighters can't reach or escape pressure by stepping through a rift mid-combo. He also summons orbs that interact with those same portals, which the team is pitching as both a trap-setting tool and a way to lock down space on the far side of the screen.

That combination — portals plus orbs that pass through them — is meant to separate him from Invincible VS's existing zoners, whose tools largely stay on one plane. Early access at next week's Evo France, running October 9 to 11 in Nice, will be the first time competitive players outside the studio get to test that interaction under tournament conditions, ahead of the wider October 13 beta window.
From Comic Villain to Fighting-Game Zoner
In Kirkman's source material, Angstrom Levy is a scientist disfigured in an early clash with Mark Grayson who gains the ability to travel between alternate versions of Earth, a power the TV adaptation leaned into during its third season. Quarter Up's take keeps that multiversal gimmick but turns it into a literal gameplay mechanic, with the portals standing in for the character's dimension-hopping rather than just referencing it cosmetically.
Rebalancing an Already Deep Roster
Adding a dedicated zoner to a 21-character roster rarely stays contained to just one matchup. New tools built around space control have a habit of scrambling a fighting game's competitive hierarchy overnight — Guilty Gear -Strive- players saw exactly that kind of shift with which fighters rose and fell after its last major patch, and Invincible VS's own rankings may be due for a similar reshuffle once Angstrom Levy's portals reach ranked play. Quarter Up hasn't said whether existing characters are getting balance changes alongside the beta, so for now the shakeup looks like it will come purely from the new matchup math.
Open Beta Details and What's Next
Willette's post details the beta specifically for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Xbox Cloud Gaming as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. Invincible VS is also available on PlayStation 5 and Steam, though the Xbox Wire post didn't spell out beta availability on those platforms. Players who spend time with Angstrom Levy during the test window will get a direct line to the people building him:
“Whether you're using portals to escape pressure, setting a trap for an unsuspecting opponent or finding your own ridiculous combinations with his orbs, there's a lot to discover once you start getting comfortable with his toolkit.”Mike Willette, Executive Producer, Invincible VS

Quarter Up has not announced when the fourth and final confirmed Year One DLC fighter will arrive, or whether Angstrom Levy's full release follows immediately after the beta closes. For now, October 13 is the date to watch — and Evo France, four days earlier, is where the first real read on his tournament viability will come from.
