Shape of Dreams left Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 with a single launch window on September 17, as publisher NEOWIZ and developer Lizard Smoothie brought the co-op roguelite to consoles a year after its Steam debut. The rollout landed during Xbox's Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast, where it was framed as a surprise release rather than a previously dated one, and it arrived on Xbox Game Pass from day one.

The console versions ship alongside "The Starless Path," the game's first anniversary update and its largest content drop since launch. NEOWIZ and Lizard Smoothie built the timing around fan demand: a console version had been the studio's most requested feature since the PC release, according to Lizard Smoothie's own account of the decision.

What The Starless Path changes

The update adds Cetus, a new playable Traveler built around ranged frost damage, glacier control and burst attacks rather than the close-range styles most of the existing roster leans on. It also opens "The Way of Stars," a hidden late-game path that ends in a new, stronger final boss encounter, and adds individual storyline content for all nine Travelers rather than the more generic framing the roster shipped with originally.

  • A new Traveler, Cetus, focused on ranged frost damage and defensive glacier control
  • "The Way of Stars," a new hidden path with its own ending and a tougher final boss
  • Six new Identity Memories, the system that lets players customize a Traveler's core playstyle
  • Reworked world boss AI with additional secondary attack patterns at higher difficulties

Three platforms, one cross-play pool

Shape of Dreams supports cross-play across all four platforms at launch, meaning PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC players on Steam can queue into the same co-op lobbies rather than being split by platform. The game is built around solo runs or four-player online co-op through its dream-world settings, and NEOWIZ priced all three console versions at a launch discount of $19.99, down from the game's regular $24.99. Xbox owners additionally get a free exclusive costume, "Crimson Flash Lacerta," available to Game Pass members as well as buyers of the full game.

A quiet TGS reveal with a same-day launch

Unlike most of the console ports and sequels shown across Tokyo Game Show's opening broadcasts this week, Shape of Dreams wasn't dated in advance. Xbox's own recap of its Tokyo Game Show 2026 stream lists it among a slate of 17 gameplay reveals and one other world premiere, but singles it out as the show's surprise release, playable the moment the segment aired. NEOWIZ and Lizard Smoothie coordinated PlayStation and Nintendo listings to go live the same day, giving all three console audiences simultaneous access instead of staggering the rollout by platform, as many multiplatform anniversary updates do.

Where the game stood before console launch

Lizard Smoothie is a four-person studio founded in 2023, and Shape of Dreams was its debut release, first reaching Steam on September 10, 2025 after an earlier public demo and prologue build. The PC version has drawn more than 1.5 million players since that launch, according to Lizard Smoothie's own developer post marking the anniversary, with the game blending MOBA-style ability building against roguelite run structure. That track record is part of why NEOWIZ treated the console expansion as an anniversary event rather than a standard port announcement, timing Starless Path's biggest additions to the same week as the platform launch instead of releasing them separately.

What's still ahead

NEOWIZ has not detailed a post-launch content schedule for the console versions beyond confirming they will receive future updates alongside the PC build, so specifics on the next content drop remain unannounced. For now, Starless Path stands as the clearest signal of how Lizard Smoothie wants the game to grow into its second year: more Travelers with dedicated storylines, harder end-game paths, and console audiences treated as a core part of that plan rather than an afterthought.
