Sony Unveils the Prism Collection, Transparent DualSense Controllers and Covers
Sony revealed the Prism Collection: see-through DualSense controllers and PS5 console covers in three colors, pre-ordering November 10 ahead of a February 2027 launch.
Sony is bringing transparent hardware back to PlayStation 5. On October 28, the company unveiled the Prism Collection, a new line of see-through DualSense wireless controllers and matching PS5 console covers that expose the components underneath a glossy, high-end finish. It is Sony's first fully transparent controller design since the limited-run 25th Anniversary DualSense of 2020, and the first time the look has been paired with a full set of swappable console plates.
The collection ships in three colors: Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray. Each pairs a clear, high-gloss shell with a metallic-finish center panel, a combination Sony's design team says was built specifically to show off the internal engineering without looking like a stripped-down prototype.

Three Colorways, One See-Through Finish
According to the PlayStation Blog announcement, the Prism Collection was designed by Sony's Color, Material and Finish team to revisit transparent hardware with today's manufacturing standards. Flare Orange is the boldest of the three, a saturated amber shell designed to catch light across the controller's curves. Emerald Green goes for a deeper, forest-toned tint, while Graphite Gray takes a cooler, storm-colored approach meant to read as the most understated of the set.
Every version keeps the same construction: a clear outer shell over the controller's internal mechanisms, with a metallic-finish strip running down the center to break up the transparency and keep the design from looking unfinished. The same two-tone treatment carries over to the matching PS5 console covers, so owners can color-match a controller to their console for the first time since Sony stopped making clear hardware a general-availability product.
What the Design Team Says It's Showing Off
Sony's designers framed the release as a response to lingering fan demand for the look. "We know how much our fans have been looking forward to the return of transparent controllers," said Leo Cardoso, of the Color, Material and Finish design team, in the announcement. Colleague Satoshi Aoyagi added that the high-gloss clear finish extends across the back of the controller specifically to put its internal technology on display, rather than hiding it behind an opaque panel the way most retail DualSense units do.
That framing matters for a hardware refresh at this point in PS5's life cycle: rather than introducing new functionality, the Prism Collection is a materials and finish exercise, aimed at the same collector audience that has driven past limited runs like the Chroma and Deep Earth lines to sell out quickly.

Pricing and Pre-Order Dates
The DualSense controllers in the Prism Collection will carry a recommended retail price of $84.99 in the US, €84.99 in the eurozone and £74.99 in the UK. The matching PS5 console covers are priced at $74.99, €74.99 and £64.99. Sony has not announced a bundle discount for buying a controller and cover together.
Pre-orders open November 10 at 10:00am local time in participating regions. In the US, that means PlayStation Direct begins taking orders at 7:00am PT / 10:00am ET; UK, French, German, Austrian, Belgian, Dutch, Luxembourg, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian customers can pre-order through the PlayStation Store's hardware section. Retail availability outside of direct ordering is expected to be limited, consistent with how Sony has handled prior specialty console-cover runs.
When the Collection Actually Ships
Despite the November pre-order window, Sony has set the retail launch for February 4, 2027, with exact on-sale dates varying slightly by country. That five-month gap between pre-orders opening and hardware shipping is longer than Sony used for recent releases like the Chroma line, suggesting demand for the clear finish may be outpacing the company's current manufacturing capacity for it.
Console covers will be sold exclusively through PlayStation Direct in markets where that storefront operates; everywhere else, Sony says they will reach select retailers only in limited quantities. That distribution pattern mirrors previous console-cover collections, which have frequently sold out within hours of going live.
A Familiar Look, Updated
Transparent game hardware has a long history stretching back to clear Game Boys and the PlayStation 5's own white-and-black launch design, but Sony's own clear DualSense controllers have mostly stayed limited-edition rarities rather than standing catalog items. Making the Prism Collection a standard purchase, rather than a giveaway or anniversary exclusive, is itself the headline here for collectors who have spent years searching resale listings for the 2020 version.
For now, the only confirmed details are the three colorways, pricing and the pre-order window; Sony has not said whether the Prism treatment will extend to other accessories like the DualSense Edge or Pulse headsets down the line.
