Edge of Memories Confirms a November 5 Launch After Its Studio Shuts Down
Nacon confirmed Edge of Memories will launch November 5 on PS5, Xbox and PC, even after a French court ordered developer Midgar Studio into liquidation.
Nacon and Midgar Studio locked in a November 5 release date for Edge of Memories during the Xbox broadcast at Tokyo Game Show 2026, confirming the anime-styled action RPG for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Pre-orders opened the same day on the Steam store page, alongside a new Release Date Trailer that puts Japanese voice acting front and center for the first time.
The date lands the game just over a year after Nacon first announced it as a spiritual successor to Edge of Eternity, and only months after a French court ordered developer Midgar Studio into liquidation. Edge of Memories is now shipping as the last game the eighteen-year-old studio will ever finish.

What arrives on November 5
Standard and Deluxe editions are both up for pre-order now. Deluxe buyers get a 48-hour early access window starting November 3, plus a Nekaroo Costume Pack, a French History Costume Pack, a digital artbook and the original soundtrack; every pre-order, on any edition, includes a Legacy Costume Pack. A physical release adds a metallic SteelBook case. On PlayStation's own product page, Nacon lists the same November 5 date across all three platforms, with no staggered console rollout.
Eline, the Corrosion, and a world past saving
Edge of Memories casts players as Eline, an itinerant Soul Whisperer on the continent of Avaris, where a plague called the Corrosion has already reduced the neighboring continent of Astryan to ruin and is now spreading through Avaris' fauna, flora and people. A mysterious encounter awakens a dark power inside Eline that lets her control the Corrosion within her own body, and the game's real-time combat has her chaining combos with two companions, Ysoris and her mentor and Kanta, shaman prince of a lost tribe, while managing a Berserk transformation drawn from that same affliction. It is a grim premise dressed in the anime-inflected art style Midgar built its reputation on with Edge of Eternity.
A studio that closed before its game did
Midgar Studio's ending was never part of the marketing plan. Nacon, which acquired the Montpellier studio in 2022 via a press release announcing Edge of Memories as its flagship new project, filed for insolvency in February 2026. Midgar entered its own judicial reorganisation proceedings that May, and after Nacon failed to find a buyer, a French court ordered the studio's liquidation in July. A Nacon investor update published September 22 confirms Midgar's discontinuation this year alongside sister studios Spiders and Nacon Tech, part of a wider restructuring across the publisher's French development labels.
Founder Jérémy Zeler-Maury, who started Midgar in 2008 and stayed on through the closure as Nacon's CTO, announced the end on LinkedIn in July.
“Today, Midgar Studio comes to an end. This is not the message I had hoped to write.”Jérémy Zeler-Maury, founder of Midgar Studio and CTO of Nacon

Why the game is still shipping
Nacon has been explicit that Edge of Memories itself survives the studio. In an update posted to the game's official account, the team stressed that the closure "had nothing to do with the game, the team's work, or maximising profit," and that Edge of Memories would still arrive in 2026. That promise has now hardened into a specific date, platforms and pricing, with a live pre-order page to back it up.
The credits still read like Midgar's original pitch to fans of the genre. Character designer Raita Kazama, known for Xenoblade Chronicles X, and writer Sawako Natori, who worked on NieR, remain attached, and the soundtrack pairs composer Cédric Menendez and vocalists Emi Evans and Marion Schneider with a final theme from Yasunori Mitsuda, the composer behind Chrono Trigger and Xenogears. None of that creative team is credited as still employed by a studio that no longer exists, which makes the November 5 date as much a statement about finishing what was promised as it is a marketing beat.
What to watch for next
Nacon has not said who, if anyone, will support Edge of Memories after launch, or whether former Midgar staff will handle post-release patches. For now, the only confirmed commitment is the base game itself, arriving with two editions, a same-day Steam release, and a trailer built to prove the game everyone worried might get shelved is real, finished and dated. Whether it gets a fair shot at an audience distracted by a crowded November lineup is the next question worth asking.
Edge of Memories will release later in 2026, but we wanted to give you all an update about Midgar Studio and the project moving forward. If you want to leave a message to the development team, our Discord remains open. Thank you for all your support.
