Mycopunk Sets October 20 as Its PS5 Debut and Steam 1.0 Release Date
Devolver Digital has set October 20 as the date Mycopunk exits Steam Early Access, launching its co-op looter shooter on PS5 for the first time.
Devolver Digital used its Tokyo Game Show slot this week to put a hard date on one of its longest-running Early Access titles. Mycopunk, the co-op looter shooter from Pigeons at Play, leaves Steam Early Access and launches into version 1.0 on October 20, arriving on PlayStation 5 for the first time alongside its existing PC release.
What Devolver confirmed at Tokyo Game Show
The date arrived through a press release published Sept. 20, timed to the show and paired with a new trailer built specifically around the release date. Devolver's write-up confirms Mycopunk will sell for $14.99 on both PC and PS5 when it drops out of Early Access, more than fifteen months after the game's original July 2025 debut. Sony had already flagged the console move during its own September State of Play, where it described Mycopunk as "launching into Game Catalog later this year" without naming an exact day — the specific October 20 date and the simultaneous PC exit from Early Access only became official through this week's Devolver announcement.
The New Atlas Hazard Crew and its fungal problem
Mycopunk casts up to four players as members of the New Atlas Hazard Crew, a squad of down-on-their-luck robots hired by the SAXON corporation to clean up what starts out looking like a routine fungal outbreak on a distant planet. Missions send the crew into procedurally varied combat zones where towering mushroom growths and the mechanical creatures they've infected have to be shot, looted and, frequently, disassembled piece by piece — loose enemy parts can be scavenged by other creatures to grow bigger and meaner if a fight drags on too long.
Between missions, the crew regroups on an orbital dropship that doubles as a hub for build crafting and mini-games. The game's central hook is its grid-based weapon upgrade system: mods and attachments are slotted into a physical grid rather than a simple stat sheet, so the shape of an upgrade matters as much as what it does, encouraging players to tetris together increasingly absurd combinations before heading back into the field.

From a school project to a PS5 launch
Pigeons at Play started Mycopunk as a student project with no outside funding before Devolver signed on to publish it, and the studio has spent its Early Access run leaning on community feedback to reshape weapons, missions and the infusion system ahead of a full release. The team has previously said a console version was something it wanted to pursue once 1.0 was locked down, and this week's announcement is the first confirmation that PS5 support is not just a possibility but a day-one launch platform alongside PC.
The developer's own account of the update history — steady patch notes, a Freeze & Fester content update in August, and near-weekly devlogs through September — points to a studio treating the jump to 1.0 as a genuine finish line for the additions promised during Early Access, rather than a simple version-number bump.
What's still unconfirmed
Multiple outlets have reported that Mycopunk will also join the PlayStation Plus Extra Game Catalog on its October 20 release day. That specific framing has not yet appeared in an official PlayStation Blog post of its own — Sony's only statement so far is the vaguer September State of Play line about a Game Catalog arrival "later this year" — so treat the exact day-one PS Plus timing as reported but not yet independently confirmed by Sony directly, pending a dedicated Game Catalog announcement closer to the release.

What to expect on October 20
Barring further delays, October 20 will mark Mycopunk's exit from Early Access on Steam and its debut on PlayStation 5, both priced at $14.99. Cross-platform saves and crossplay between PC and PS5 have not been detailed yet, and Devolver's release-date trailer focuses on the game's tone rather than platform specifics, so those questions should get answered as the date gets closer. For now, the confirmed facts are straightforward: one release date, two platforms, and a fungal invasion that a four-person squad of disposable robots will finally get to fight to a proper ending.
