Magenta Down's Reveal Trailer Sends Unto the End's Studio to a Hostile Exoplanet
2 Ton Studios, the team behind Unto the End, revealed Magenta Down at ID@Xbox's October showcase: a tense, timing-based survival adventure on a storm-wracked exoplanet.
2 Ton Studios used its slot at the October 2026 ID@Xbox Showcase to reveal its first game since 2020's Unto the End: a short, atmospheric sci-fi survival adventure called Magenta Down. The announcement trailer, posted to Xbox's own YouTube channel, runs just over a minute, and in that time it establishes a crash, a scattered crew and a planet that is actively trying to kill them.
A World Premiere at ID@Xbox
Magenta Down was one of the headline reveals of the showcase, a biannual broadcast that pairs Xbox with IGN to spotlight independent developers. 2 Ton Studios is a small team, and Unto the End, its 2020 side-scrolling swordfighting game, earned a reputation for demanding, deliberate combat rather than flashy spectacle. The studio is carrying that same philosophy into deep space.
In the Xbox Wire post accompanying the reveal, 2 Ton Studios co-founder Stephen Danton laid out the pitch directly: a compact journey built around hard choices rather than open-ended exploration. The trailer backs that up, cutting between wreckage, flares of radiation static and a character favoring an injured leg across jagged terrain.

Stranded and Scattered
The setup is simple and unforgiving. A ship goes down on a remote, hostile exoplanet, and its crew is thrown clear of the wreck and scattered across the surface. You play as one of the survivors, and your job is to find your crewmates and get everyone off the planet before it finishes the job the crash started.
There is no map screen full of icons here. 2 Ton Studios has built Magenta Down as a "short, atmospheric sci-fi adventure," according to its own Steam store page, and the trailer leans into that word: atmospheric. Long static shots of dust storms rolling across a magenta-tinted sky do as much storytelling as any dialogue.
Weather, Radiation and Scarcity
The planet itself is the main antagonist. Storms sweep across the surface, and getting caught in one does double damage: it spikes your radiation exposure and cuts your visibility at the same time, forcing you to choose between pushing through blind or holing up and burning supplies you may need later. Those supplies, per the developer's own description, are scarce by design, so every detour and every fight has a cost attached.
It is a survival structure built around attrition rather than crafting trees or base-building, closer in spirit to a tightly paced walk through hostile territory than an open-world survival game. The trailer's final stretch shows exactly that kind of calculation playing out, as a storm front visibly closes in on a lone figure picking a path across open ground.
Timing Over Twitch Aiming
Combat in Magenta Down is not about precision aiming. 2 Ton Studios has described it as a system built around standing your ground and picking the right moment to strike, a description that lines up with the creature encounters glimpsed in the trailer, including what looks like an oversized, many-legged predator closing in on the player character in the planet's half-light.
“We wanted to create an atmospheric journey about moving forward and enduring the consequences. For us, that's what makes an adventure interesting, facing difficult decisions with imperfect knowledge.”Stephen Danton, Co-founder, 2 Ton Studios

That timing-first approach is a clear through-line from Unto the End, which built its entire combat system around reading an opponent's windup rather than mashing an attack button. Here, the stakes are different: it is not duels against other warriors, but a lone survivor fending off whatever has adapted to live on a planet this unwelcoming.
The Team Behind Unto the End
2 Ton Studios has stayed quiet since Unto the End shipped, and Magenta Down is the clearest signal yet of what the studio has been building in that time. The developer's own website still centers on that earlier game, and the new project marks a genre shift, from a 2D side-scrolling fighter to a 3D survival adventure, while keeping the same emphasis on tense, readable moment-to-moment decisions over reflex-testing action.
The reveal trailer does not name any other team members, and 2 Ton Studios has not detailed studio size or team composition for the new project. What it has confirmed is the design intent: a journey, not a sandbox, with an ending players are meant to reach rather than a system meant to be endlessly replayed.
Release Window and Platforms
Magenta Down is currently dated for 2027 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, arriving through both Steam and the Microsoft Store. No PlayStation or Switch 2 version has been announced, and 2 Ton Studios has not said whether the game will land on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
For now, the only confirmed look at the game is the showcase trailer itself, and 2 Ton Studios has not detailed a beta, demo or next showcase appearance. Given the care the studio put into Unto the End's combat before launch, a quieter stretch of development between now and a 2027 release would not be a surprise.
