ARC Raiders Goes Free for Everyone October 8-12 as Frozen Trail Launches

Embark Studios is opening ARC Raiders to everyone for four days as the Frozen Trail update lands, while a tougher anti-cheat crackdown cuts queue teaming by 85 percent.

Embark Studios is throwing open the gates to ARC Raiders for four days this month, letting anyone try the full extraction shooter for free from October 8 at 09:00 UTC through October 12 at 08:00 UTC. The studio announced the window on October 2 on the game's official news page, timing it to coincide with the launch of Frozen Trail, the biggest content update ARC Raiders has received since it left Speranza and went into full release last October.

The free access runs across Steam, Xbox and PlayStation, and Embark says it is meant as a genuine trial rather than a limited demo. "Free play will grant access to the full ARC Raiders game, so you can try out the award-winning extraction adventure before you buy," the announcement reads, with no restrictions on maps, gear or progression during the four-day window.

Free Access Lines Up With Frozen Trail's Launch

New players who jump in during the free window land in the game at the same moment Frozen Trail goes live, giving them access to Pendola Pass, the update's new frozen settlement map, from their very first raid. Embark has also built in a safety net for anyone unfamiliar with the terrain: trial players who team up with raiders who already have Pendola Pass unlocked can explore the new map immediately rather than having to earn access first.

Raiders unfamiliar with the game's hardest standing fights would do well to come prepared, since several of them predate Frozen Trail entirely. Anyone heading into the free window is likely to run into Speranza's most feared machine fairly quickly, and tips for taking down its toughest boss are worth reading before a squad wastes a full loadout on a failed extraction.

What Frozen Trail Actually Adds

Embark is calling Frozen Trail its most content-dense release since ARC Raiders launched. The update centers on Pendola Pass, a new map built with far more verticality than the Rust Belt zones that came before it, layering threats both above ground and in buried tunnels beneath the snow. Alongside the map, Frozen Trail introduces a new high-level ARC Operation built specifically for experienced squads, emphasizing cooperative play and dynamic encounters rather than a fixed, repeatable layout.

  • A new frozen settlement map at the edge of the Rust Belt, with greater verticality and new traversal routes
  • An ARC Operation aimed at veteran Raiders, built around dynamic encounters rather than a static layout
  • New ARC enemy behaviors, including a large machine designed to stop squads in their tracks
  • A customizable Outpost, plus adjustments to the Skill Tree and Raider Decks progression systems
  • New weapons, gadgets and cosmetics, including weapon amplification options across roughly 15 existing guns

The update is free to every existing owner on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no separate purchase required to access Pendola Pass or its new systems.

A Cheater Crackdown Ahead of the Rush

Embark is also moving to get ahead of an expected flood of new accounts during the free window. In a September 30 post on the official ARC Raiders site, executive producer Aleksander Grøndal detailed a tightened anti-cheat stance built on kernel-level protection from Denuvo, detection models from Anybrain and the studio's own in-house machine-learning systems. Permanent bans are now standard for any confirmed cheat program, with hardware bans layered on top to slow repeat offenders from simply creating new accounts.

Grøndal also pointed to a narrower but increasingly common complaint: "queue teaming," where players deliberately land in the same solo lobby and team up against others playing by the rules. After Embark rolled out detection for that behavior, the studio says it saw 85% fewer players engaging in it within five days, and spoiled raids caused by the practice dropped from roughly 1 in 50 to 1 in 300.

Closing In on a Year Since Launch

The free window also lands just weeks ahead of ARC Raiders' first anniversary; the game left early access and launched in full on October 30, 2025. Between Frozen Trail's new map and systems and the open four-day trial, Embark is clearly positioning the update as a checkpoint for the game's first year rather than just another content drop, giving both lapsed players and newcomers a reason to see what the extraction shooter looks like heading into its second year.
