Cyberpunk 2077's Free Edgerunners 2 Update Adds Dual-Wielding and Console Mods

CD Projekt Red's free Update 2.5 ties into the Edgerunners 2 anime with new gear, a Clampdown side quest, dual-wielding guns and mod.io support on consoles.

CD Projekt Red has released Update 2.5 for Cyberpunk 2077, a free patch the studio calls the Edgerunners 2 Update. It arrived on October 22 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, timed to the Netflix premiere of the anime's second season two days earlier, and it is one of the biggest content drops the five-year-old game has received since Update 2.0.

The patch brings a new dual-wielding playstyle, cyberware customization, a side quest set before the anime's events, and cross-platform mod support through mod.io, according to the official patch notes published on cyberpunk.net.

A Free Update Timed to the Anime's Return

Update 2.5 is free for anyone who already owns Cyberpunk 2077, and CD Projekt Red is explicit that it was built around the launch of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on Netflix. The studio previewed the patch in a REDstreams broadcast on October 21 before shipping it the next day on PC, Mac, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is confirmed to follow in the coming days, though CD Projekt Red has not given it a firm date.

It is the game's first major content update since mid-2025, and the studio is again using an anime tie-in to pull players back into Night City the way Update 2.0 did around the original Edgerunners series.

Dual-Wielding and Cyberware You Can Finally Restyle

The headline system is Double Trouble, a new perk in the Cool skill tree that lets V dual-wield pistols and revolvers from the Power weapon category, backed by four supporting perks that round out the playstyle. Photo Mode gets matching dual-wield poses and a set of frames styled after the Cyberpunk Trading Card Game.

Alongside the new guns, players who have installed Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, a Monowire or the Projectile Launch System can now restyle that cyberware's appearance and color at five new Glamdoc vendors scattered across Night City, each with its own voiced introduction scene.

New Quests, Gear and a Dedicated Radio Station

The update's main story addition is Clampdown, a side quest set in the Night City Prison before the events of the anime and built around Weak, a character pulled from Edgerunners 2. It unlocks after completing The Heist and two gigs for the fixer Wakako, and rewards a five-piece gear set themed around the character, including his signature revolver.

A second quest, Welcome to Paradise, unlocks once V hits level 15 Street Cred and plays as a guided tour of the city narrated by the in-world radio host Richard Night. CD Projekt Red has also added a new in-game station, HKGN 102.0 FM, carrying music from both seasons of the anime, plus 12 new Minor Arcana tarot cards and several new clothing sets sold by vendors across the city's districts.

Mod Support Comes to Consoles

For the first time, Cyberpunk 2077 supports mods on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, not just PC. The feature runs through mod.io, and players on every platform can now browse and install a curated selection of community-made mods from an in-game menu, with CD Projekt Red saying more will be added over time.

It is a notable shift for a console audience that has never had sanctioned mod access to the game, and it puts Cyberpunk 2077 alongside a small number of major releases that officially support mods on consoles.

Quality-of-Life Fixes and What's Next

Update 2.5 also cleans up a long list of smaller issues: save files are now grouped by playthrough, stash menus can be filtered, modded saves are flagged to keep achievements and trophies honest, and consoles gain an FOV slider. CD Projekt Red says it also fixed a Switch 2 "insufficient space" save error, a bug where PS5 HDR settings did nothing, and a case where the Delamain cab could get stuck mid-quest.

With the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions already live, attention now turns to the promised Nintendo Switch 2 release, which CD Projekt Red has not yet dated. The full rollout announcement and patch notes are available on the studio's own site, and the game remains available on Steam and other major storefronts.
