Deadlock's Halloween Update Reworks the Mid-Boss and Adds Candy Cauldrons
Valve's Halloween patch for Deadlock reworks the Mid-Boss fight, tunes comeback mechanics, and adds candy-hunting Cauldrons through November 2.
Valve pushed a sizeable update to Deadlock on October 30, folding its annual Halloween decorations into the biggest gameplay patch the hero shooter has seen since the City Never Sleeps rollout wrapped up with Nurse Harrow. The "Halloween 2026 + Gameplay Update" post on Deadlock's Steam Community page covers everything from a new seasonal event to a full overhaul of how the Mid-Boss fight plays out, and it lands while the free-to-play MOBA-shooter hybrid is still officially in closed testing under Valve's own account.

A New Coat of Candy and Masks
The seasonal layer is the most visible change. The Hideout gets a spooky redecoration, every hero now wears a Halloween mask, and the streets of the game's fictional New York are dotted with glowing Cauldrons. Breaking one with a Heavy Melee drops a piece of Candy that can be saved and eaten later for a temporary Sugar Rush buff. Valve's notes frame it as a lighthearted seasonal add-on, and it runs in-game only through November 2, after which the Cauldrons and masks disappear until next year.
Mid-Boss Gets a Bigger, Tougher Arena
The real substance is in the Gameplay Update that shipped alongside the event. The Mid-Boss pit itself has been resized with more cover, and the boss is considerably harder to solo: its health and per-minute health growth are both up 20%, resistance reduction now works at only half effectiveness against it, and its Roar warning now triggers at 25% health instead of 50%. Valve also cut the bounty for killing it from 3,000 (+50/min) down to 1,500 (+25/min), a trade meant to make the fight less of a single decisive payday and more of a sustained team objective.
The Rejuvenator reward tied to that fight changed shape too. Instead of one crystal sitting in the center of the pit, three now drop in random spots around it, each breakable with a single heavy melee and each granting its own bounty on top of the usual healing effect, though the crystals now take 7.5 seconds to drop rather than 6.
Haunts and the Comeback Economy
Outside the Mid-Boss, Valve tuned the game's other neutral threats and its catch-up mechanics. Haunts now have 10% more base bounty, growth, health and damage, while the souls they drop for a losing team secure 25% slower at baseline but up to 50% faster when a team is more than 20% behind in Net Worth. Bonus gold for trailing teams rises from a 26% cap to 30%, and that same bonus now boosts tick-based soul income for a losing side's two poorest players specifically, rather than spreading evenly across the roster.
Readers curious how those numbers reshuffle the matchup can check a ranked breakdown of every hero post-patch alongside Valve's own notes before queuing back up.

Smaller Tweaks That Add Up
A string of smaller adjustments rounds out the patch. Healing Snacks now restore 14% of max health instead of 10%, Steam Vents boost stamina regeneration by 150%, and the ratio governing how much move speed carries into air drag has been raised from 0.35 to 0.5, which should make aerial movement feel slightly less punishing. Move speed inside tunnels drops from a 70% bonus to 50%, and breakable props across the map now grow 10% slower over the course of a match. None of it is as headline-grabbing as the Mid-Boss changes, but together these tweaks nudge several of the map's core rhythms at once.
Where Deadlock Stands Heading Into November
Deadlock remains Valve's only active multiplayer project outside of Counter-Strike 2, and it still has no public release date or store listing beyond its invite-gated Steam page. The studio has kept up a steady cadence of balance passes and event content since City Never Sleeps closed out its hero-voting arc last month, and this update suggests the Mid-Boss, long one of the most contested flashpoints on the map, is getting sustained attention rather than a one-off nerf. Whether that translates into a broader beta opening or an eventual full launch is still anyone's guess, but for now the candy, the masks and the reworked boss fight are live for anyone with access to the client.
