Phantom Blade Zero Launches on PS5 and PC With a Boss-Weapon Deep Dive From Sony

S-Game's wuxia action-RPG launches on PS5 and PC after a 50-day delay, as PlayStation's own blog details the boss-weapon system driving its combat.

S-Game's wuxia action-RPG Phantom Blade Zero is officially out on PlayStation 5 and PC, closing a wait that began at The Game Awards 2025 and ran well past its original release window. A day before launch, PlayStation's own blog published a deep dive into the game's signature combat hook: beat a boss, and you can carry a piece of their arsenal into the next fight.

A Launch That Took an Extra 50 Days

Phantom Blade Zero was first dated for September 9, 2026, then pushed roughly 50 days to its current release. Sony and S-Game now list the game as out October 29 worldwide, with PlayStation's own storefront and blog noting an October 28 release in the United States and other select regions because of time-zone rollout differences. The Steam listing shows the same build live at $59.99 for the Standard Edition and $69.99 for the Digital Deluxe Edition, with a separate $10 Deluxe Edition Pack available to PS5 owners who bought the base game.

The game puts players in control of Soul, a warrior told he has sixty-six days left to live, in a fractured martial-arts setting S-Game calls the Wulin. It runs on Unreal Engine 5 and ships only on PS5 and PC; there is no Xbox version at launch.

Inherit the Boss, Inherit the Blade

PlayStation Blog contributor Phil Hornshaw's October 28 feature lays out the mechanic that gives the game its name recognition: several boss fights end with Soul claiming part of that boss's own weapon. Beating the early optional boss Hua, nicknamed the "Deadly Betrothed," and the outlaw Jing Ye hands Soul new tools like the Scarlet Wraithblade and the dual-wielded White Serpent and Crimson Viper swords, while separate "Phantom Edge" weapons are built specifically to break environmental barriers and grapple across the world rather than just deal damage.

That loop ties combat directly to exploration. Players who track down a full set of the game's hidden "Blue Memory Flowers" unlock backstory sequences and a permanent boost to Soul's maximum health, giving a reason to detour off the main path between boss encounters.

The Sha-Chi Meter Keeps Every Fight Honest

Underpinning all of it is a resource called the Sha-Chi meter, which drains when Soul blocks an attack and drains from the opponent when a player lands a parry or a clean hit. According to the same blog post, holding L1 blocks, tapping it at the right moment parries, Square strings light attacks, Triangle swings heavy ones, R1 dodges, and a Power Surge attack on L2 spends banked Sha-Chi Essence for a bigger payoff. Weapon swaps are mapped to D-Pad Left, and the game leans on DualSense haptic feedback to telegraph incoming blows.

Donnie Yen and the Wulin He Helped Build

Action star Donnie Yen signed on as a creative consultant and performed voice and motion capture for a major antagonist known as the Gold-Masked One, a role PlayStation detailed in an earlier State of Play recap. S-Game founder and CEO Soulframe Liang has credited that partnership directly with the game's fight choreography.

Some numbers floating around the game's launch window, including an oft-repeated boss count north of fifty and a claimed concurrent Steam player figure in the hundreds of thousands, trace back to secondary reporting rather than anything S-Game or Valve has published directly; treat those specific totals as unconfirmed until the studio or Steam's own charts post them.

Where and How to Play

Phantom Blade Zero is live now on PS5 and PC via Steam, with PlayStation's own game page listing both edition tiers and the add-on pack. Players chasing better frame rates on PC can also get it running at its best on PC with settings tested against the final release build.

For now, S-Game and Sony are letting the boss-weapon system do the talking, and the studio has not said whether a timed PS5 exclusivity window of any length applies to the PC version.
