Dawn of War IV's New Trailer and Closed Beta Preview Its December 3 Launch
A nine-minute overview trailer, weeks of press previews and a closed beta build toward Dawn of War IV's delayed December 3 return to Kronus.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is finally showing its hand. On October 21, developer KING Art Games and publisher Deep Silver posted a nine-minute Official Game Overview Trailer that walks through every faction, campaign and mode heading into the strategy game's delayed December 3 launch on PC. The timing is no accident: the same week, a closed beta opened to selected players, and press outlets wrapped up three weeks of hands-on time with a preview build.
It is the fullest look yet at a game that is trying to do something the Dawn of War series has never done before: hand the reins to a studio other than Relic Entertainment. KING Art, the team behind Iron Harvest, picked up the license for the fourth mainline entry, and the overview trailer is its clearest pitch yet for why that should work.

Back to Kronus, Pushed Back for Polish
Dawn of War IV returns to Kronus, the world fought over in the fan-favorite Dark Crusade, well after the events of that campaign. The game was originally due on September 17, but KING Art and Deep Silver delayed it to December 3 to work through issues raised in community playtests. Commander Edition buyers still get a head start, unlocking the game on November 30, three days ahead of the standard release.
Deep Silver's official trailer announcement frames the extra months as time spent on bug fixes, performance and balance rather than new content, and the overview trailer backs that up: nothing in it looks like a game still finding its feet.
Four Factions, Four Campaigns
The trailer confirms the launch roster of four playable factions: Space Marines, split between the Blood Ravens and Dark Angels chapters, the Orks, the Necrons and, joining a Dawn of War campaign for the first time, the Adeptus Mechanicus. Each faction gets its own campaign, and KING Art is promising more than 70 missions across all four, with branching choices and two-player co-op support throughout.
- Space Marines: Blood Ravens and Dark Angels chapters fighting side by side
- Orks: a full campaign built around the faction's chaotic, improvised war machine
- Necrons: the ancient, mechanical empire awakening on Kronus
- Adeptus Mechanicus: the series' newest playable faction
That is a bigger single-player commitment than any previous Dawn of War, and it is the part of the trailer KING Art clearly wants remembered first.
Skirmish, Multiplayer and a Returning Last Stand
Beyond the campaigns, the overview trailer spends real time on the modes built for replaying after the story is done. Skirmish supports customizable matches across four game types, including Domination, Annihilation, Maelstrom and Defend, against up to five AI opponents. Competitive multiplayer launches with 30 maps, and the trailer confirms the return of Last Stand, the series' co-op survival mode, with players teaming up against waves of enemies using five heroes and their companion units.
The Steam store page lists all of these modes as supporting cooperative play in some form, which is consistent with how KING Art has pitched the game since its gamescom reveal: a campaign built for solo or co-op, backed by a multiplayer suite built for the long haul.
The Painter Tool and a Year One Roadmap
One of the trailer's bigger reveals is an expanded Painter tool, letting players recolor armor and vehicles, apply decals and mix and match equipment and war gear. Deep Silver is calling it the most comprehensive customization tool in the franchise's history, and it is clearly meant to carry Dawn of War IV's multiplayer scene the way skins and liveries do in other long-running competitive games.
That multiplayer scene is also getting a mapped-out future. KING Art's Year One roadmap pairs free post-launch updates, including the return of Crusade Mode, new maps, modes and Commanders, and a Mission Editor, with two paid additions: a Blood Ravens story prologue and the AFTERMATH expansion, which adds a new playable faction.

Press Previews and a Closed Beta Already Underway
The overview trailer did not arrive in a vacuum. Deep Silver gave press and content creators three weeks with a preview build covering the Astra Militarum and Space Marine prologue, the full Ork and Adeptus Mechanicus campaigns and 1v1 Skirmish, and early reaction out of that window has been largely positive about the campaign variety and how each faction plays differently from the last.
A closed beta opened on October 21 alongside the trailer, giving a wider group of selected players 1v1 Skirmish and multiplayer matches across all four factions so KING Art can stress-test balance and performance before December. Participants are under NDA, so detailed beta footage is not expected to surface before launch.
With the overview trailer, a running closed beta and a firm December 3 date now all in place, Dawn of War IV has given itself one job left: prove over the next six weeks that the extra development time actually fixed what needed fixing.
