PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS just picked up the two upscaling technologies most PC shooters gained years ago, and the settings are easy to miss if you are not looking for them. Update 43.1, which KRAFTON's PUBG Corporation shipped on September 10 during an early-morning maintenance window, adds NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR 4.1 directly to the in-game graphics menu. Here is exactly where the options live, how to push DLSS to its newest model, and which settings are worth changing before your next drop.
What Update 43.1 Actually Changed
Battle royale is a nine-year-old game built on Unreal Engine 4, and until this patch its only frame-rate lever on PC was a blunt resolution scale slider. The official 43.1 patch notes confirm that "Resolution Upscaling options have been added under Settings > Graphics > Advanced," letting players choose NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, or Disable, then set the upscaling quality manually or leave it on Auto to match their current resolution. It is a small menu addition with a real payoff: PUBG's hundred-player islands and long sightlines are exactly the scenario where AI upscaling earns back frames without turning distant enemies into a smear.
NVIDIA covered the rollout the day before launch, noting that PUBG players "can upgrade to our latest DLSS 4.5 models" once Super Resolution is active, using the NVIDIA app rather than waiting on PUBG Corporation to ship a newer DLSS library in a future patch.
It is worth saying plainly why this took nine years: PUBG's engine has always leaned on a fixed 3D resolution scale slider and traditional TAA to control performance on Erangel, Miramar and the game's other large islands, and grafting a machine-learning upscaler onto that pipeline is a bigger job than it sounds for a live-service title still running events and anti-cheat updates every week. That history is also why the new menu options sit under an Advanced submenu rather than replacing the old resolution slider outright; both systems now coexist, and PUBG Corporation has not said whether the legacy scale slider will be retired.
Turning On DLSS or FSR in PUBG's Settings
The upscaling menu only appears once Anti-Aliasing is set to Medium, High or Ultra, so check that first if the options seem to be missing.

- Set Anti-Aliasing to Medium or higher so the Resolution Upscaling section unlocks.

Forcing the DLSS 4.5 Transformer Model With the NVIDIA App
PUBG's own settings menu turns DLSS on, but it does not guarantee you are running NVIDIA's newest Super Resolution model. That is controlled separately, through the NVIDIA app rather than the game. With DLSS active in PUBG, alt-tab out, open the NVIDIA app's Graphics tab, and use DLSS Override – Model Presets to force Super Resolution and Ray Reconstruction to "Latest" for the game specifically or for every DLSS title on your system at once. Which Quality Preset Actually Wins Firefights
Upscaling quality is a trade-off between frame rate and how sharp distant players look, and PUBG's open maps make that trade-off more visible than in a corridor shooter. Quality mode keeps the internal render resolution close to native and is the safer pick on a 1440p or 4K monitor with a mid-range RTX 40- or 50-series card, since PUBG rewards spotting a prone player at 300 meters over raw frame rate. Balanced or Performance modes are worth the visual cost on a 1080p monitor or a lower-end GPU chasing a locked 144 or 240 fps for competitive play, where the interpolation softness is far less noticeable than the smoothness gain. Auto mode is a reasonable default while you are still comparing, since it re-picks a sensible internal resolution any time you change your output resolution.
One setting worth double-checking before you settle on a preset is PUBG's older 3D resolution scale slider, which still exists in the same Advanced tab. Leaving that slider below 100 while also running DLSS or FSR stacks two separate upscaling passes on top of each other, which can soften the image far more than either technology alone. Set the legacy scale back to 100 first, then let the new upscaler do that work by itself.

AMD FSR 4.1 on Radeon Hardware
FSR 4.1 is the version of AMD's machine-learning upscaler that AMD expanded from the Radeon RX 9000 series down to RX 7000 series RDNA 3 cards earlier this year, and PUBG's implementation uses that same model rather than an older FSR 2 or FSR 3 fallback. Radeon owners should update to a current Adrenalin driver before testing it in PUBG, since FSR 4.1 support is delivered through the driver rather than through the game alone. The same Quality, Balanced and Performance tiers apply on the AMD side of the menu, and the same Anti-Aliasing prerequisite governs whether the option is visible at all.
Quick Troubleshooting Checklist
