AYN's Odin 3 Portal Handheld Launches With a 120Hz OLED and Dragonwing Q8 Chip

AYN opened pre-orders for the Odin 3 Portal on October 22, an Android handheld with a 120Hz OLED screen, a Dragonwing Q8 chip and a 9,000mAh battery starting at $399.

AYN opened pre-orders for the Odin 3 Portal on October 22, the latest entry in the handheld maker's Android lineup and the first to pair a 120Hz OLED screen with Qualcomm's newest Dragonwing chip. Three storage tiers are available at launch, starting at $399 for early buyers, with shipments expected to begin in early November.

The Odin 3 Portal keeps the clamshell-free, Switch-style layout AYN has used since the original Odin, but it is built around a markedly different platform than its stablemates. Where the standard Odin 3 line leans on Qualcomm's Snapdragon mobile chips, the Portal variant uses the Dragonwing Q8, a processor Qualcomm positions for edge devices like smart displays and video-conferencing hardware rather than phones. AYN is betting its mix of sustained clock speeds and active cooling translates well to handheld emulation and cloud or local PC streaming.

What's inside the Odin 3 Portal

The headline spec is the display: a 7-inch, 1920x1080 OLED panel running at up to 120Hz, a step up from the 120Hz LCD AYN used on the Odin 2 Portal. It's paired with an Adreno 830 GPU, Android 15, UFS 3.1 storage, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. A 9,000mAh battery charges at up to 60W, and the body carries a USB-C port with DisplayPort 4K/60Hz alt-mode output alongside a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD slot.

AYN redesigned the grips for the Portal compared with earlier Odin models and fitted larger Hall-effect thumbsticks with textured edges, aiming to fix complaints that the smaller sticks on past models felt cramped during longer sessions. The glass covering the screen is also treated to resist fingerprints, a small but frequently requested change from owners of the glossier Odin 2 Portal.

Pricing and the three launch tiers

AYN is selling the Odin 3 Portal in three configurations, each discounted for a limited early-bird window:

  • Base — 12GB RAM / 128GB storage: $399 (regular $419)
  • Pro — 12GB RAM / 256GB storage: $479 (regular $499)
  • Max — 16GB RAM / 512GB storage: $549 (regular $579)

A fourth configuration, a 16GB/1TB Max variant, was added after the initial reveal at $669, discounted from $699. Every tier ships with a one-year warranty, and all but the base model are offered in Black, White and Cold Grey. The base configuration is Black only. AYN is also selling optional accessories at launch, including a TPU grip, a carrying case, a screen protector and a set of ABXY buttons styled after Nintendo's layout.

How it fits into AYN's lineup

AYN has iterated quickly on the Odin name since the original model's 2021 debut on a Snapdragon 845 chip. The Odin 2 followed in 2023, and the company has since split its range into standard and "Portal" variants, with the Portal line generally prioritizing display quality and connectivity for docked or streamed play over raw horsepower. The Odin 3 Portal continues that pattern: AYN's own gameplay demo for the device showed it running PC titles through GameSir's GameHub streaming app rather than leaning solely on native Android ports or emulation.

That positions the Portal as a companion device for players who already own a gaming PC or console and want to stream to a lighter, cheaper handheld, rather than a direct rival to Windows-based devices like the Steam Deck or ROG Ally, which run native PC game libraries locally.

Availability

Pre-orders for the Odin 3 Portal opened October 22 at 9:30pm ET through AYN's own store, with the early-bird pricing above tied to that pre-order window. AYN has not given a precise end date for the discount. Shipping is expected to begin in early November, with the base configuration already showing as backordered on AYN's site shortly after launch.
