007 First Light's Extended Operations Update Adds New Game+ and 00 Difficulty
IO Interactive's free Extended Operations update adds New Game+, a brutal 00 difficulty, two TacSim missions, and new weapons to 007 First Light.
IO Interactive closed out the first week of October with a surprise: a free content drop for 007 First Light called Extended Operations, released alongside a new trailer on the developer's own YouTube channel. The video, posted the same day as the update, walks through everything landing in patch 1.3.0, from a punishing new difficulty tier to two fresh TacSim missions built around Bond's gadgets and his Aston Martin.
The timing matters. First Light launched back in May as IO Interactive's first original IP since the Hitman trilogy, reimagining a rookie James Bond rather than leaning on an established film era. Five months on, Extended Operations is the clearest signal yet that the studio is treating the game as a live platform rather than a one-and-done release, with the trailer framing the update as a direct response to player feedback.

New Game+ Unlocks the Hardest Difficulty Yet
The headline addition is New Game Plus, which lets players restart a completed campaign while keeping their suit loadout and gadget flexibility intact. Folded into that mode is "00" difficulty, which the official patch notes describe bluntly: enemies spot Bond faster, hit harder, and gadget resources only regenerate a fraction as quickly as on lower settings. It's pitched as the definitive test for anyone who cleared the campaign on normal difficulty and wanted a reason to go back.
A new Photo Mode arrives alongside New Game Plus, giving players camera controls, filters, and effects to capture their own spy-thriller compositions mid-mission. It's a smaller addition, but one that's become close to standard for narrative action games with strong art direction, and First Light's moody, film-grain lighting is well suited to it.
Two New TacSim Missions: Valhalla Protocol and Jungle Heist
Extended Operations also adds a pair of TacSim activities, First Light's replayable mission structure for testing specific skills outside the main story. Valhalla Protocol puts players behind the wheel of an Aston Martin Valhalla on open roads in Slovakia, mixing driving with the machine guns and missile launchers that have become a series staple since the car's debut as a gadget-laden pursuit vehicle.
Jungle Heist sends Bond back to The Pearl, a luxury resort in Vietnam, to retrieve classified documents under cover. Where Valhalla Protocol is built around vehicular combat, Jungle Heist is a stealth-first infiltration through a dense, heavily guarded compound, giving the update a reasonable split between the two pillars First Light's TacSim content has leaned on since launch.

Both missions slot into the existing TacSim menu rather than extending the campaign, so players can jump straight into either one without replaying story missions first. Together with the roadmap IO Interactive laid out when First Light shipped, Valhalla Protocol and Jungle Heist suggest the studio intends to keep pairing one vehicle-based and one infiltration-based activity with each content drop going forward.
New Weapons, Outfits, and a Very Good Dog
Combat options grow with the Storm 12 Gauge shotgun and the Squire Marksman Rifle, both gated behind mid-to-high Clearance Levels and earned through the game's Intel currency rather than sold separately. Three new outfits, Observant Spy, Leisure Beam, and First Class, are unlocked by default, while a fourth, Grey Standard, is available for free to anyone who links an IOI account before November 1.
The patch also adds Jack the Bulldog, a pettable character stationed at MI6 headquarters, alongside a round of combat animation improvements and what IO Interactive describes as more than 700 individual fixes targeting crashes, progression blockers, and UI issues reported since launch. None of it is as headline-grabbing as the new difficulty tier, but it rounds out Extended Operations as a genuinely substantial patch rather than a marketing-driven trailer with little behind it.
Why Extended Operations Matters for 007 First Light
007 First Light arrived to strong critical reception, and the Steam listing shows IO Interactive has kept up a steady cadence of patches in the months since, from early progression fixes to the path tracing support added over the summer. Extended Operations is the most feature-dense of those updates so far, and it's entirely free, a contrast to how some live-service-adjacent single-player games have handled post-launch content.
For a studio best known for Hitman's long tail of seasonal content, treating a narrative action game the same way is a notable bet. If New Game Plus and 00 difficulty hold up the way Hitman's harder contracts did, Extended Operations could turn First Light from a strong five-month-old release into a game with real staying power heading into its first anniversary.
