Crimson Desert's Charting the Unknown Trailer Reveals Sailing, Diving and a New Delay
Pearl Abyss's new six-minute overview trailer for Crimson Desert's Charting the Unknown DLC shows sailing, diving and a Boss Gauntlet ahead of its new October 29 launch.
Pearl Abyss used its official Crimson Desert channel this week to post a six-minute Features Overview trailer for Charting the Unknown, the open-world action-RPG's first paid story expansion. Posted October 20, the video is the fullest look yet at a DLC that pushes the game past Pywel's shores and into open water, and it arrives as the studio is also walking back the expansion's release date by two weeks.

A Six-Minute Tour Through Pywel's Uncharted Waters
The overview opens on the coastline outside Pywel, where Kliff commandeers a ship for the first time in Crimson Desert's story. Pearl Abyss uses the clip to walk through full manual sailing, from raising sail and reading wind direction to docking at newly charted islands that sit well outside the base game's original map. The studio frames the ocean less as scenery and more as a second playable region, with its own points of interest, treasure and wildlife layered on top of the exploration tools players already know from dry land.
From there the trailer cuts underwater, showing Kliff diving from the deck to explore sunken ruins and reef systems. A breath meter visible in the footage gauges how long a dive can last before surfacing becomes urgent, turning exploration into a small risk calculation rather than a free swim. Pearl Abyss uses the sequence to tease "hidden mysteries" buried beneath the waves without naming them outright, keeping the DLC's larger story beats for launch.
Sailing, Diving and New Threats From the Deep
Charting the Unknown isn't adding water for its own sake; the trailer pairs the new region with new things trying to kill the player in it. Footage shows a heavily armored crustacean boss blocking a reef passage and a serpentine foe that forces Kliff to fight while managing both stamina and breath underwater. Pearl Abyss's own description of the expansion tells players to "adapt your tactics," and the overview backs that up by cutting between combat on a rocking ship deck and combat on the seafloor, each with noticeably different footing and camera behavior.
The studio has also folded these new encounters into a dedicated Boss Gauntlet, a standalone combat mode built around repeat fights against the DLC's toughest new enemies rather than one-off story bosses. It's a structure Pearl Abyss has not used elsewhere in Crimson Desert, and the trailer treats it as a way to keep the ocean content relevant to players long after they've finished exploring it once.

A Fuller Life Back on Shore
Roughly half the overview stays on land, expanding what Pearl Abyss calls life in Pywel. An upgraded housing mode lets players renovate and furnish a home with a wider set of options than the base game offered, while a new facility-management layer has Kliff renting out buildings around town for passive income. The trailer also confirms deeper relationship systems with named townspeople, which Pearl Abyss describes as letting players "forge deeper bonds" rather than simply raise a reputation number.
None of this is framed as busywork bolted onto the main expansion; the overview cuts between dock conversations, home decoration and the new ocean region to argue that Charting the Unknown is meant to widen Crimson Desert's existing life-sim layer at the same time it adds a new area to explore.
Three Characters, Three New Paths
The DLC's story content splits across three player characters. Kliff gets the ocean-focused thread shown throughout most of the trailer, while Oongka and Damiane each receive their own storylines that Pearl Abyss says let the trio "forge their own paths forward" once the base game's campaign is finished. The studio hasn't detailed either character's plot beyond that framing, and the overview itself stays mostly on Kliff, saving the other two threads for the expansion's actual launch.
Pearl Abyss has also confirmed pre-order cosmetics tied to the new setting: a Charter's Diving Set for Kliff and Oongka and a lighter Charter's Light Diving Set for Damiane, both built around the DLC's underwater theme rather than carried over from the base game's wardrobe.
Why Charting the Unknown Slipped Two Weeks
The trailer's release came days after Pearl Abyss quietly moved Charting the Unknown's launch from October 15 to October 29, in a notice signed by "The Crimson Desert Team" rather than an individual developer. The studio's stated reason was simple: more time was needed "to deliver a more polished and stable gameplay experience," language that points at the new ocean and diving systems rather than any of the DLC's story content.
The new window staggers by region rather than landing everywhere at once. Charting the Unknown unlocks October 29 at 22:00 UTC for Europe and 15:00 PT for North America, which pushes the expansion into October 30 local time across Asia and Oceania. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and the Epic Games Store, the same platforms as the base Crimson Desert, which Pearl Abyss shipped in March.
With the overview trailer now public, the delay reads less like a sign of trouble and more like Pearl Abyss wanting its first paid expansion's new systems, sailing, diving, housing and the Boss Gauntlet among them, to land in working order on day one rather than being patched into shape afterward.
