Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen's Launch Trailer Marks the RPG's Switch 2 Debut
Capcom's Dark Arisen expansion bundles with the base RPG for its first Nintendo Switch 2 release, and a new 34-second trailer previews snowbound Norgan.
Dragon's Dogma 2 just made its first trip to Nintendo Switch 2, and Capcom marked the occasion with a launch trailer that doubles as a reminder of how much the series leans on scale and dread to sell itself. The new Switch 2 release bundles the 2024 action RPG with Dark Arisen, a paid story expansion that sends the Arisen into a frozen, long-abandoned region most players have never set foot in. The 34-second trailer, posted to YouTube by Nintendo on October 14, leans hard into that cold: snow-choked castle ruins, a horned, matted-fur giant swinging a torn-up tree trunk, a winged horror looming over a crowd of frost-pale undead, and a feathered dragon breathing fire down a collapsed hallway, all cut to the kind of dread-laden score Dragon's Dogma has built its reputation on.

A New Region Carved From Ice
Dark Arisen's new story is set in Norgan, a mountainous northern territory that the base game never let players reach. Capcom has described it as roughly a quarter the size of Vermund, the main continent from the original release, and it's built almost entirely around frozen castle ruins, ice caves and the kind of vertical, wind-blasted terrain that didn't exist anywhere in the 2024 game. The expansion adds the Lost Rites, a set of 12 dungeon challenges scattered through Norgan and the rest of the world, each built around a relic-hunting loop: clear a dungeon, claim a relic, use it to unlock passage into a harder one. Capcom has said the dungeons technically unlock around character level 20, but recommends players be closer to level 40 before wading in, since Norgan's monsters hit noticeably harder than anything in the base campaign.
First Steps on Nintendo Switch 2
For Switch 2 owners, this is the first time any version of Dragon's Dogma 2 has been playable on Nintendo hardware, and Capcom bundled the whole thing rather than selling the port piecemeal: the Switch 2 edition includes the full base game and the Dark Arisen expansion together for $49.99. Players who already own Dragon's Dogma 2 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S or PC via Steam can instead buy the expansion on its own for $29.99. All four platforms released the content simultaneously on October 9, closing what had been one of the more notable platform gaps left on Capcom's release calendar since the base game's 2024 debut.
Why Capcom Chose the Cold
Dark Arisen's director, Kento Kinoshita, said the team deliberately picked a harsh, unfamiliar environment to make Norgan feel distinct from anything players had already explored. "We realized we wanted to have a harsh environment for the new area. That's why we landed on an area covered in snow," Kinoshita said in an interview ahead of launch. Producer Naoto Oyama has separately said the new story content runs roughly 15 to 20 hours on its own, with the Lost Rites dungeons adding more than 25 hours of total playtime, a substantial addition for a base game Capcom already pegs at 30 to 40 hours. That math puts a completionist Switch 2 newcomer well past the 60-hour mark before they've finished everything the bundle has to offer.

A Loot Loop Built Around Relics
The expansion also reworks how loot filters down to players once they're deep in Norgan's dungeons. Rather than handing out gear piecemeal, the Lost Rites center on Relic Expeditions: multi-floor runs that end with a named relic reward tied to that specific dungeon, which in turn is the only way to access some of the harder Rites further into the region. Capcom has described it as the signature gameplay loop of the entire expansion, built specifically to tie Dark Arisen's toughest fights to tangible, named rewards rather than randomized drops.
Price, Platforms and How to Jump In
Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is out now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Existing Dragon's Dogma 2 owners on PS5, Xbox or Steam need only buy the Dark Arisen DLC to add Norgan, the Lost Rites and the new bosses to their existing save; Switch 2 owners start fresh with the full bundle. Capcom first confirmed the expansion and its Switch 2 bundle back in June, showed off story and enemy footage at its TGS Spotlight broadcast in September, and closed out the rollout with this week's launch trailer, timed squarely to the Switch 2 release.
What's Next for the Arisen
Capcom hasn't announced any further paid content for Dragon's Dogma 2 beyond Dark Arisen, and with the expansion now live across every platform the game ships on, the immediate story feels closed for now. What's left is whatever players make of Norgan's harder, colder version of the series' relic-and-pawn loop, and if the original game's post-launch run is any indication, a community that will keep finding new ways to break its monster fights long after the credits roll.
