A one-person Polish studio is putting its biggest release yet in front of players today. ALYSSA, the psychological horror adventure from Broken Arrow Games, leaves its long demo period behind and launches on Steam on October 22, 2026, closing out a run that started with a free prologue back in January.

The game casts players as the title character, a young girl who wakes up with no memory of how she got there, inside a sprawling, decaying mansion that nobody is supposed to leave. It is a small, quiet release next to this week's blockbuster patches and showcase reveals, but it is exactly the kind of timely debut the genre's most devoted fans track closely, and it arrives with a design built almost entirely around dread rather than combat.

A Mansion Built From Nightmares

ALYSSA's premise is simple on paper and unsettling in practice. Alyssa finds herself trapped inside a vast, isolated mansion she cannot escape, watched over by three captors with very different temperaments: Iris, described as a clumsy maid; Mortimer, a gigantic clown with terrifying strength; and Mask, a silent leader hiding secrets of their own. A masked girl named Emily, whose mask the story implies is permanently fused to her face, offers to help Alyssa find a way out, though the game is careful never to confirm whether she can be trusted.

Mechanically, Broken Arrow Games leans on stealth rather than fighting back. Players hide under tables, duck into tight spaces, and manage limited light sources like candles to avoid drawing the captors' attention, while piecing together what is actually happening to them through environmental storytelling scattered across the house. The developer has also confirmed multiple endings, giving the escape attempt more than one possible outcome.

From a One-Person Studio With a Horror Pedigree

Broken Arrow Games is the solo label of Polish developer Marcin Krwawnik, who has spent close to a decade working in atmospheric horror. His earlier title Don't Be Afraid, a first-person horror adventure that followed a boy named Jamie, first surfaced as a teaser back in 2017 before its full release years later, and a free prologue chapter called "The First Toy" is still available for players who want the studio's earlier work. ALYSSA carries over the same fascination with childhood fear and captivity, but trades Jamie's story for Alyssa's, and swaps a single antagonist for three distinct captors roaming the same house.

That solo structure matters for how a release like this gets made and marketed: there is no publisher newsroom or investor release behind ALYSSA, just the developer's own itch.io page, Steam listing, and YouTube channel carrying every update directly to players.

A Year of Demos Before the Full Release

ALYSSA's route to launch has been unusually public. A playable demo first went up on Steam and itch.io on January 17, 2026, and Broken Arrow Games pushed it through several revisions over the following weeks, including updates on January 18, January 25, and a more substantial version 0.6 on February 19 that expanded the opening chapter players could try. The studio stayed quiet on a firm release date for months afterward, instead using the demo period to gather feedback from players who posted their own reaction and playthrough videos.

That changed on September 8, 2026, when a devlog titled "ALYSSA — Release Date Revealed!" confirmed the game was "coming to Steam on October 22, 2026," alongside a short YouTube trailer built around the announcement. Today's launch makes good on that promise about six weeks later.

What to Expect at Launch

ALYSSA is a Windows-only release on Steam, built as a story-driven horror adventure rather than a long survival game; Broken Arrow Games' own listing emphasizes exploration, environmental storytelling, stealth-based evasion, and multiple endings over combat or crafting systems. The developer has not published a separate roadmap for post-launch content, and the Steam store page had not surfaced a final price at the time of writing, so players checking it out today should confirm current pricing and system requirements directly on the store page before buying.

Players who want to try before committing can still download the free ALYSSA demo, which covers the opening chapter and remains live alongside the full release.

Where to Play It

ALYSSA is live now exclusively on Steam for PC. Broken Arrow Games continues to post updates and respond to player comments directly on its itch.io page, which doubles as the closest thing the one-person studio has to an official hub outside of Steam itself. For a genre built on small, independent voices, a solo developer following through on a release date announced two months in advance and hitting it on the day is itself a small, quietly impressive feat.

Broken Arrow Games' September 8, 2026 reveal trailer confirmed ALYSSA's October 22 Steam launch date.
