Sony has confirmed the three games joining PlayStation Plus as October's Monthly Games: racing sim F1 25, extraction shooter Hunt: Showdown 1896 and the co-op brawler Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2. Adam Michel, Senior Director of Content Acquisition and Operations at Sony Interactive Entertainment, detailed the lineup in a PlayStation Blog post on September 30, and all three titles become claimable for Essential, Extra and Premium subscribers from Tuesday, October 6 through Monday, November 2.

It is an unusually varied trio even by Monthly Games standards, pairing a licensed motorsport sim with a gothic-horror shooter and a split-screen voxel brawler, and it lands the same week PlayStation Plus also adds a round of Spider-Man-themed avatars and a set of spooky-season item packs across three other live-service games.

What's leaving, what's arriving

September's Monthly Games selection, Sniper Elite: Resistance, MLB The Show 26, Wobbly Life and Chained Echoes, stays claimable through Monday, October 5, giving subscribers one last weekend to add any of the four before they roll off the service. October's three replacements then go live the following day and stay in members' libraries for as long as they keep an active PlayStation Plus subscription, per Sony's usual Monthly Games terms.

F1 25 puts players in the owner's chair

F1 25 is the official game of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship, and Sony's post singles out two of its biggest single-player changes: a reworked My Team 2.0 mode that hands players the keys to running a constructor from the Owner's seat, and the returning Braking Point story mode. Online, F1 25 introduces F1 World, a new squad-based mode where friends race together as a team against AI-controlled drivers rather than purely against each other. EA Sports and developer Codemasters detail the full feature set on the official F1 25 game page.

Hunt: Showdown 1896 brings its new era to the catalog

Crytek's Hunt: Showdown 1896 is the second game on the list, and Sony's description leans into its reputation as "a new era of the addictively unforgiving extraction shooter." Set in corrupted backwaters, it tasks Hunters with tracking down monstrous bosses, claiming their bounty, and surviving the trip back out, either solo or with up to two teammates. The PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S shooter runs on an upgraded build of CRYENGINE, and Crytek's official Hunt: Showdown site has full details on the Rocky Mountain setting it is built around.

Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 supersizes the chaos

Rounding out the lineup is Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2, a PS5 and PS4 co-op brawler set on a blocky, square-shaped Earth under attack by giant invaders. Players assemble a four-soldier squad from a roster that spans the mainline EDF series and its spin-offs, then take on redesigned voxel versions of classic enemies alongside new threats exclusive to this release. It supports four-player online co-op and two-player local split-screen, continuing the series' long-running focus on chaotic, large-scale team battles.

Spider-Man avatars and HorrorFest bonus packs

The same October 6 date also brings a set of limited-edition Spider-Man: Brand New Day avatars to Sony Pictures Core, free for PlayStation Plus members as the film arrives on the service; non-members can unlock them by purchasing the film outright. Separately, Sony's "PlayStation Plus Exclusive HorrorFest Packs" promotion adds seasonal in-game bundles to three other live games this week: a Call of Duty: Warzone Horror Bundle on October 1, a Hunt: Showdown 1896 Starter Pack on October 6, and an Overwatch 2 Dragur Reinhardt pack on October 7, all requiring the base game to redeem.

  • F1 25 — PS5, single-player Career and My Team 2.0, new F1 World squad multiplayer
  • Hunt: Showdown 1896 — PS5, solo or up to three-player extraction shooter
  • Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 — PS5 and PS4, four-player co-op and two-player split-screen

Regional availability for Monthly Games can vary slightly, so subscribers should confirm each title's listing on the PlayStation Store once the October lineup goes live on the 6th.
