Sony confirmed on September 28 that pre-orders for God of War Laufey open tomorrow, September 29, at 10:00 a.m. local time, and used the announcement to lay out exactly what buyers get in each edition alongside a fresh batch of combat screenshots. The PS5 exclusive, which follows Kratos and Atreus's late wife Faye through the underworld realm called the Everywhen, launches February 16, 2027.

Pre-order bonuses and the Digital Deluxe Edition

Anyone who pre-orders any version of the game before launch receives the Last Wish Armor Set, a cosmetic Phranque Golden Leaves appearance for Faye's owl-like companion, and an in-game resource pack. Stepping up to the Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Dark Alchemy Armor Set, Dark Alchemy Blade, Dark Alchemy Bow Scales and Dark Alchemy Catalyst, plus a digital mini artbook and the official soundtrack.

Santa Monica Studio's post notes that the physical Standard Edition's pre-order items arrive via a download code rather than on the disc itself, and that some of the cosmetic rewards only unlock as players progress through the story rather than being available from the opening cutscene. No price has been announced for either edition, and the studio has not said whether a physical Collector's Edition is planned.

Faye's shape-shifting Serpent Bow

The bigger news for combat fans is the first detailed breakdown of Faye's signature weapon. The Serpent Bow can snap from dormant to notched instantly and offers two distinct stances: a full-aim precision mode that lets her stack up to five charged arrows for a single volley, and a hip-fire half-aim mode built for close-range clusters against groups of enemies. Santa Monica Studio says the precision mode can also impair an enemy's movement or attacks when it lands on specific body parts, opening a window for a melee follow-up.

Players who want a similar weapon-swap rhythm to study before Laufey arrives can work through this walkthrough of a demanding three-boss sword gauntlet in the meantime, since both games lean on quick stance changes to open up gaps mid-combo. Faye can also swap in different arrow types on the fly, including rapid-fire, explosive and multi-target shots, and the bow's cosmetic Scales double as gameplay modifiers rather than pure skins, each granting a unique perk on top of its new look.

Blades, Scales and Catalysts

Beyond the bow, Santa Monica Studio detailed three gear slots that shape how Faye fights: a customizable Blade for her sword, the Scales that dress and reprogram the Serpent Bow, and Catalysts, described as powerful artifacts capable of channeling the magic of the Everywhen. Each slot carries its own stat bonuses and unique looks, so the studio is framing loadout choice as a bigger part of combat than in earlier God of War entries, where armor sets did most of that work alone.

Why this reveal matters

God of War Laufey has been largely quiet since its combat-focused reveal at State of Play in June, so today's post is the first real look at how Faye's kit will actually play rather than how it looks in a cinematic. Framing her around a ranged weapon is also a notable shift for the series, which has spent two console generations built almost entirely around Kratos's axe and blades. Faye, established in earlier God of War games as Kratos's late wife and Atreus's mother, was previously known only through flashbacks and other characters' memories, so a full campaign told from her perspective in the afterlife is new territory for the franchise as much as the bow is for her kit.

What's next

Pre-orders go live at 10:00 a.m. local time on September 29 across PlayStation Store and participating retailers, with Santa Monica Studio promising more news before the February 16, 2027 launch. Anything beyond today's confirmed bonuses, including pricing and any physical collector's items, remains unannounced.
