Xbox Rolls Out Mythic Achievements to Insiders in a Bid to Match PlayStation

Xbox Insiders can now earn permanent Mythic Achievements for completing a game, retroactively applied to past playthroughs, including Xbox 360 titles.

Xbox has started rolling out Mythic Achievements, a lifetime completion badge that recognizes players who have earned every original achievement in a game. The feature went live for Xbox Insiders on September 29, 2026, giving the platform its own answer to the completionist prestige long offered by PlayStation's Platinum Trophy, and Xbox itself called it one of the most player-requested features in the program's history.

How a Mythic Achievement Is Earned

According to Xbox's own Xbox Wire announcement, a player earns a Mythic Achievement by unlocking every achievement that shipped with a game at launch. Achievements added later through downloadable content or post-launch updates do not count toward the milestone, and once a Mythic is earned, Xbox says it is permanent, with no way to lose the status by leaving DLC challenges unfinished.

The badge sits apart from the existing Xbox Achievements system in one notable way: it carries no additional Gamerscore. Xbox is positioning it purely as a mark of distinction rather than another score to chase, closer in spirit to a trophy case than a leaderboard entry.

A Redesigned Gaming Tab

The rollout comes with a new Gaming tab on Xbox profiles, replacing the old achievements list with a hub that tracks Gamerscore milestones, recently completed games and Mythic status in one place. Mythic Achievements are set apart there with a distinct heroic frame, and the tab now works both ways: players can browse a friend's Gaming tab to see which titles they have taken all the way to Mythic, turning completion history into something worth comparing rather than a number buried in a menu.

Old Completions Count Too

Rather than starting the system from zero, Xbox applied Mythic status retroactively across a player's entire history, including Xbox 360 titles. Anyone who had already earned every original achievement in a game should find it already marked Mythic without doing anything further, a detail Xbox called out directly in its post: your history comes with you, and Mythic Achievements have already been added to eligible games completed in the past. For players who have spent years, or in some cases nearly two decades, chasing full completions, that retroactive sweep could surface a sizeable trophy case overnight.

Seeing the Path to a Mythic

For games still in progress, a new progress bar sits at the top of each title's achievement list, showing exactly how many original achievements remain before Mythic status is reached. A filter lets players isolate those launch achievements from anything added afterward, which Xbox now labels as "add-on" entries so the two never get confused. The same progress indicators carry over into the Guide and individual achievement detail screens, so the distance to a Mythic is visible wherever a player checks their stats rather than only on the achievements list itself.

Closing a Long-Standing Gap With PlayStation

The move addresses a feature Xbox has lacked since Sony introduced the Platinum Trophy on PlayStation 3 in 2008: a single, permanent marker for having fully completed a game's original content. Speculation about an Xbox equivalent built for weeks after early signs of a "Mythic Achievement" filter surfaced inside the Alpha Skip-Ahead Insider ring, and Tuesday's post is the first time Xbox has confirmed the feature by name, explained its rules and put it in front of testers.

Rollout and Feedback

Mythic Achievements is currently limited to members of the Xbox Insider Program, with Xbox crediting Insider feedback for shaping the feature across multiple test rings before this release. The company has not given a firm date for a wider public rollout beyond confirming that Insiders now have first access. Anyone not yet enrolled can join the program through the Xbox Insider Hub on Xbox consoles or Windows PC, or share feedback directly with the team, to try the feature before it reaches the wider Xbox population.
