Where Winds Meet Marks Its First Anniversary With the War-Torn Hutuo Region
NetEase's wuxia open-world RPG turns one on Xbox this month with the war-torn Hutuo region, two new boss fights and a Dual Spears martial art.
Where Winds Meet is about to blow out its first birthday candle on Xbox, and developer Everstone Studio is marking the occasion with its biggest content drop since launch. Publisher NetEase Games detailed the update on Xbox Wire on November 6, confirming that the war-torn Hutuo region lands on Xbox Series X|S on November 13, roughly a year after the open-world wuxia adventure first arrived on console.
A Frontier Scarred by Sixteen Years of War
Hutuo is framed as the next chapter in the game's story, set on a frontier left scarred by a sixteen-year conflict. The centerpiece is a new campaign built around the Battle of Zhongdu Bridge, which NetEase describes as a turning point for the region's warring factions. The update's rollout follows a pattern Everstone Studio has used all year: debut a region on the game's Chinese server first, then bring a tuned, global version to every platform once the content has had time to settle from player feedback. Hutuo itself first surfaced on the CN server as a standalone, ashy-gray map before NetEase folded it into this anniversary release for the rest of the world.

New Bosses Guard the Hutuo River Campaign
Two new boss encounters anchor the campaign. Xiao Han serves as the climax of the Hutuo River Campaign itself, while Bingshen waits at Moonveil Knoll as an optional, higher-difficulty fight for players chasing better gear. A third antagonist, Yelu Abuli, rounds out the region's roster of enemies. Everstone Studio has built its combat reputation on these set-piece duels since launch, and Hutuo's additions continue the approach the official Where Winds Meet site has used to showcase the game's wuxia swordplay in every major update so far.
Dual Spears Brings New Choreography to the Jianghu
A second wave of content arrives shortly after, on November 26, when the Dual Spears martial art style unlocks for all players regardless of progress in the Hutuo campaign. NetEase says martial arts choreographer Yuen Woo-ping, known for his work on wuxia and martial arts films, led the motion capture and fight choreography for the new weapon style. Dual Spears joins Where Winds Meet's existing roster of unarmed, blade and polearm styles, giving players another way to approach the game's real-time, parry-driven combat.
Board Games Join the Jianghu's Downtime
Hutuo isn't only about combat. The update adds two new minigame modes, Horse Racing Chess and Jianghu Tactics, giving players board-game diversions between story missions. Everstone Studio has steadily expanded Where Winds Meet's non-combat activities over its first year, building on the fishing, cooking and homestead systems introduced alongside earlier updates like the Hexi and Imperial Palace expansions, and the new modes slot into that same pursuit of low-stakes downtime content.
A Year of Expansions Since a 2025 Launch
Where Winds Meet launched globally on November 14, 2025, and has followed a steady cadence of free expansions since, including a half-anniversary Imperial Palace update in May that added homesteads and a companion system. NetEase has positioned the game as a long-term, free-to-play alternative to premium open-world action RPGs, leaning on its wuxia setting and frequent content drops to keep players returning. Hutuo is the clearest sign yet that the studio intends to keep that pace into a second year.
Xbox Optimizations and Anniversary Rewards
On the technical side, Xbox Series X renders Hutuo upscaled from 1080p to 4K using AMD FSR 2, while Series S upscales from 900p to 2K. The Xbox release also adds Smart Delivery, HDR support and larger interface text for the console's UI. Where Winds Meet is playable through Xbox Play Anywhere and is included with PC Game Pass and Ultimate Game Pass, meaning console and PC players share the same save data and anniversary rewards.

To mark the anniversary itself, Everstone Studio is giving every player a free Outfit Set worth 2,580 Echo Beads, available in a choice of twelve styles, along with 42 Resonating Melody draws and 27 Lingering Melody draws toward the game's cosmetic gacha system. The studio has not announced further regions beyond Hutuo, so what comes after this anniversary wave remains unconfirmed.
