Until Dawn 2 Sets a January 28 Release Date With a New Choice-Driven Trailer
Firesprite dated Until Dawn 2 for PS5 on January 28, 2027, revealing a new choice-driven trailer, a Digital Deluxe Edition, and a returning Dr. Hill.
Firesprite has given Until Dawn 2 a firm launch date, narrowing the vague "2027" window fans had been working with since June down to a single day. The PS5 horror sequel arrives January 28, 2027, the developer confirmed alongside a new pre-order trailer shown during Sony's September 3 State of Play broadcast. Pre-orders for the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions opened September 10, and the reveal doubled as the clearest look yet at how the game's choice-driven structure will actually play out.
A Release Date and Open Pre-Orders
Creative director Stu Tilley made the announcement himself in a post on the PlayStation Blog, dating the game to the last Thursday of January and tying the pre-order window to a hard September 10 start. That is the first specific date Firesprite has attached to the project since revealing it in June with nothing more precise than a "2027" target, and it lands earlier in the year than the vague window had suggested.
Dead True Walks Back Into the Dark
The new trailer picks up with the cast of Dead True, a group of paranormal-investigation streamers who stage their scares for views, shooting an episode at Blackwood Sanatorium about a tragedy that unfolded there twelve years earlier. Izzy, the crew's newest intern, uncovers something during the shoot that the group did not expect, and it derails their plans before the episode even airs. It is the same bait-and-switch structure the original Until Dawn used to lure a found-footage premise into a real survival-horror story, and Firesprite is leaning on it again rather than reinventing the setup.
A Story Built With the Team Behind Dispatch
Until Dawn 2's narrative is co-written with AdHoc Studio, the team behind the choice-driven series Dispatch, and the trailer's back half is built almost entirely around demonstrating what that partnership looks like in practice. Owen, the show's cocky on-camera lead, hits a fork in the plot when a signal points toward his missing friend Nate: follow it directly, or take a longer route across a decaying bridge toward a suspiciously lively bar that might hold its own clues. Mina, the group's more conflicted co-host, is handed an uglier choice later on, when the network pushes for a staged sacrifice live on camera and she has to decide whether the crew's pet chicken pays the price or she does.
HorrorCon, Yoona, and the Island's Older Secret
Between those two threads, the trailer sends Dead True to HorrorCon in Sydney, where they meet Yoona, a survivor of an earlier supernatural attack who pulls back her collar to show a scar that is still spreading. Her account is what redirects the crew toward Akishima Island, a remote South Pacific location abandoned since a luxury resort shut down there under murky circumstances in the 1970s. Firesprite is positioning the island itself as the through-line connecting Izzy's find at Blackwood and Yoona's warning: whatever is waiting there predates Dead True's arrival by decades, and the season-long mystery is in figuring out how.

Pre-Order Bonuses and a Returning Dr. Hill
Both the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions carry Dr. Hill-themed pre-order content now that orders are open, including a classic Until Dawn outfit, an Akishima Island variant, and in-game collectible bobbleheads built around the character, who is voiced again by Peter Stormare. The Digital Deluxe step adds a Y2K Neon Vibes cosmetic pack covering all eight members of the Dead True roster and a Diorama of Death gallery that lets players revisit each character's death scenes from new angles, continuing the first game's tradition of treating its kill sequences as a feature to collect rather than just a fail state.
What We Know Ahead of January
Until Dawn 2 was first announced at Sony's June 2 State of Play with a new cast, a new island setting, and no returning characters from 2015's original, a clean break the studio has stuck with in every trailer since. The confirmed cast now includes Owen (Dacre Montgomery), Mina (Camila Senna), Izzy (Sarah Catherine Hook), Nate (Spence Moore II), and Yoona (Gia Kim), alongside Reagan, Luke, Josie and Cameron rounding out the eight-person Dead True crew.
