Frosthaven's Official Gameplay Overview Trailer Sets the Stage for October 15
Snapshot Games' Gameplay Overview trailer walks through Frosthaven's six starting classes and Outpost systems ahead of its October 15 full launch.
Snapshot Games and Cephalofair Games have used a new Gameplay Overview Trailer to show exactly what Frosthaven looks like on the eve of leaving Early Access. Posted to the game's own YouTube channel, the video walks through party composition, tactical combat and base-building in the run-up to the digital adaptation's full 1.0 launch on October 15.
The trailer arrives a year into Frosthaven's Early Access run on Steam and the Epic Games Store, and it is the clearest look yet at how the finished version will play. Rather than teasing new story beats, it is framed as an onboarding piece: a guided tour of the systems a new player will meet in their first few hours, cut together from footage of live combat encounters and Outpost management screens.
Six classes, one frozen frontier
The overview spends much of its runtime on party building. Frosthaven launches with six starting character classes: the Banner Spear, Boneshaper, Drifter, Geminate, Blinkblade and Deathwalker, each built around a distinct playstyle and its own deck of ability cards. Additional classes unlock later as a campaign progresses, mirroring the way the tabletop original doled out new player options as a box's Envelopes and Sealed sections were opened.
Combat itself is turn-based and card-driven. Each character plans two actions per round from their personal ability deck, balancing initiative order, positioning and resource costs against the moves an enemy is telegraphing. The trailer leans on this tension, showing a four-person party forced to choose between finishing off a wounded elite or repositioning to avoid an incoming area attack.

Running the Outpost between missions
Between scenarios, the video turns to the Outpost, the settlement players build and upgrade as a home base. Constructing new buildings there unlocks fresh mechanics and services, from crafting to new quest types, and the trailer frames it as the long-term progression loop that sits alongside the moment-to-moment combat. It is one of the more significant differences from tabletop Frosthaven, where settlement management was handled through paper stickers and punch-out tokens rather than an interactive base screen.
The footage also touches on the game's difficulty scaling, which Snapshot Games has said is aimed at letting newcomers and board-game veterans play at a pace that suits them, with a built-in tutorial for anyone arriving without Gloomhaven or tabletop Frosthaven experience. Support for online co-op means the same run can be picked up solo or with up to three friends, with the trailer cutting between single-player and multi-character footage to make clear that neither mode was an afterthought.
From tabletop hit to digital sequel
Frosthaven the video game is Snapshot Games' digital adaptation of designer Isaac Childres' board game of the same name, published on tabletop by Cephalofair Games. It serves as a spiritual successor to the studio's earlier Gloomhaven adaptation, carrying over the co-op-friendly tactical combat while introducing the Outpost layer and a new roster of classes built for Frosthaven's colder, more hostile setting. The digital version entered Steam Early Access in July 2025 and has been updated roughly every two weeks since, with expansions such as Into the Abyss and Legacy of the Algox adding new heroes and story content along the way.
What changes when Frosthaven leaves Early Access
The 1.0 release folds all of that Early Access content into a single package and adds a substantial helping of new material on top. Snapshot Games has said the Early Access build launched with more than 35 quests across the game's first two Acts, with over 130 total quests planned for the completed campaign, alongside full online co-op for up to four players.
Snapshot Games CEO Julian Gollop framed the project's scope when the October release date was first confirmed.
The team has also used the run-up to 1.0 to work through community feedback gathered over the past year, adjusting onboarding, interface clarity and general polish rather than only adding content. Snapshot Games and publisher Arc Games have said save data from Early Access will carry over into the 1.0 build, so anyone already deep into a campaign will not need to start over when the update lands.
“Frosthaven is an incredibly ambitious project. There are such deep and intricate systems, plus a dedicated and knowledgeable fanbase to live up to. Staying true to the tabletop version and collaborating with the brilliant Isaac Childres and Cephalofair Games has been rewarding, and we're proud of what the team has accomplished.”Julian Gollop, CEO, Snapshot Games

Where to watch, and when to play
The Gameplay Overview Trailer is live now on Frosthaven's official YouTube channel, and the game remains playable in Early Access on Steam and the Epic Games Store ahead of the full switch to version 1.0. Anyone waiting for the complete campaign now has a firm date to plan around: October 15, when Frosthaven's Frozen North opens up in full for the first time.
